Begin with the room you use.

A considered home starts with the details of an ordinary day.

Before choosing a new storage system, watch how a room is used. Where do you set down a bag? Which objects are always being moved? Which drawer do you avoid because finding something takes too long?

Choose one point of friction. Give the objects involved an obvious place that fits the way you already move through the room. A practical arrangement does not need to look like a photograph.

Try the change for a few ordinary days. If things continue to collect somewhere else, treat that as useful information about the system. Make the intended place easier to reach or reconsider what belongs there.

A room can be beautiful and functional without being finished forever. Leave space for a changing routine and the things you actually enjoy.

An ETHEREAL editorial note.
